Feathered Decoration

Last year, I logged this post featuring an American Idol video of the feather-wearing contestant Crystal Bowersox. The idea of wearing feathers has niggled at me ever since and I've considered all sorts of ideas for how to pull it off and not tried a single one.

Then yesterday, there I was in Target fingering my way through the earring racks when I bumped into the only pair I purchased. There they were. Feathers, all ready for the wearing.

I love them.

Although, I do have to say that I still think I need to get brave enough to wear some in my hair which still strikes me as exotic and stunning.

Potpourri of Favorites

A little smattering of everything tonight. We have just finished a whirl-storm of cutting and pasting and I can finally say that all our valentines are finished, never mind those bright blue paint splots on the tablecloth. As they say in Spanish, "No hay importa!" I have no huge thing to say, I've glued and painted it all out on red construction paper, I'm afraid.....and so, you get to take a little stroll through my odds and ends bin and see what goodies I've been keeping on hand to share.

First, this wonderful post from the esteemed Anna about mothering boys who skateboard. I had misty eyes when I finished.

This lovely video will make the faintest among us peppy. How could it not?

This bright little lunch is definitely on my list for the very near future. Feels like a perfect cure for spring fever.

How beautiful is this hairdo? How in the world do you think she did that?

And this. This had me in stitches. (In case you don't know it....you might need this chart topping hit as background to understand.)

And as a parting shot, this painting. Talouse Latrec....I'm a fan.

Much love to you, I'm over and out!

A Little Finger Pluckin' Warmth

I wish I could play the banjo to my little men but, in lieu of that, on this chilly, blizzardy night (yes, another snowstorm, rolling in) I suggest you all enjoy this video on me. I love the warm cozy house this baby is in...sweet mama with a kerchief and her strings, papa teasing from behind the camera, wood stove and quilts hung over the chairs. What a warm moment to play over and over...

Unpacking Music

I can't get this song out of my head...its my perpetual soundtrack at the moment. I can't imagine hipper music. I would love to do a late, late night jam session with a bunch of acoustic musicians (lots of drummers!) and play this song. Wouldn't that be loads of fun? *sigh*

End of Week Potpourri

Just a crazy potpourri today of all the delicious little tidbits I have been accumulating all week and haven't found a place to share. Have a little bit of everything....

Chubby toddler tummies in swimsuits...just, delightfully off center

Smiles so big they almost look fierce

This amazing video which is painfully inspiring and makes me madly itch to put together a million vibrant quilt squares.
This amazing take on the staycation. I totally, totally wanna do it. Any takers?

This brilliant book. Am putting it right on my library hold list. It looks like the kind of fabulous homeschool/mommy happiness book that may end up amongst those books I just packed yesterday...on the bookshelves on my new home.

And look! Speaking of flowers...one of my orphaned orchids that I bought for pennies, all shriveled and missing tags when I was a newlywed...just finally rehabbed enough to bloom for the first time.

Duet Magic

I'm not a crazy, wild American Idol fanatic. First of all we don't have t.v. so that sort of shoots keeping up with it at all, and then secondly, I'm not a fan of the whole idea of nationwide idolism/the complete commercialization of young artists. On the other hand, I think Simon Cowell is wonderful, I do like the dreadlocks + dimples of one of the latest contestants, Crystal Bowersox. Plus she has a stunning voice and sings stuff I like. So, there's that.

And so, I'm leaving all of you for the weekend with this tremendous video of her latest on show exploit, a duet that knocked me clean over. I could just sit there and hit play again and again. So pretty. Love how they twinkle into each other's eyes as they sing, the way the camera swings lazy circles around them and the way she affectionately manhandles the neck of his guitar in the after-interview. Cute cute cute. Do you think I could get away with wearing feathers in my hair?

Tomorrow (the due date I calculated), a slew of houses, the next day a midwife appointment after church and then more realtor meetings and maybe somewhere in there...time for a long, warm bath. Unless....Baby cancels all plans! We'll just wait and see.

Filmography Beauty

Two videos to share today that have nothing in common except a link to tragedy (floods and car accidents) but a focus on beauty. Both are sort of dreamy and poignant.

The first film is a flooded May field in Austria which, I stumbled on and was just kind of open-mouthed over. It looks like this European footage was taken during flooding last year in the spring. Because we're having floods here at the moment and lots and lots of rain this spring (I heard it was a record for wettest spring in New York) I have floods on the mind. Mostly floods are scary or at least debilitating but this flood is so pretty. Hope you enjoy. Love the apple tree in bloom and the dandelion, stinging nettles and other meadow plants at the end.

And then this next film is one of the most poignant and beautiful commercials I've ever seen. Regardless of what you think of seatbelts you have to admit there is beauty here and genius of the artistic and yet low budget kind. Love the emotion and symbolism.
